A Bright Future for Health and Safety

Facilities Operations and Development’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team established their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) committee to help create a more diverse workforce that is reflective of the Buckeye community they support.

This fall, members from the EHS DEI committee met with students from the Metro Early College Middle and High School to discuss career pathways in science. The EHS team highlighted the importance of the health and safety field and the benefits of creating a positive safety culture in working and learning environments at Ohio State.  Members were also asked about their cultural backgrounds and the roles it played in their personal and professional lives.

As a next step, the committee is working to develop job shadowing and mentorship opportunities with underrepresented minority students from Metro School who are interested in the field of health and safety.

If you are interested in supporting this initiative, please contact members of the EHS DEI committee: Cathy Black, Taylor Allen, Shelli Shoemaker, Mina Okello, Ivania Lazo and Maisha Murry.
