What is your official job title at EHS and a general description of your job duties?
At EHS, I manage the Laboratory Safety Program. It focuses on having safety representatives who assess occupational and research hazards and assist researchers in any project-specific safety-related evaluations they may need.
When did you begin working for Ohio State?
I started working at Ohio State in 2010 as a Large Animal Surgical Technician for ULAR. I then went into a research lab under the Department of Surgery before transferring to EHS.
How long have you been with EHS?
I took a position as a Laboratory Safety Officer in 2015.
Why did you decide on a career in health and safety?
I enjoy helping people perform their research safely. Risk assessments of the broad scope of projects being conducted here at the university are of great interest to me. Primarily I like being able to sit down with the laboratory personnel and help them work through all the compliance requirements.
What is your favorite thing about Ohio State?
I love the ever-changing environment. It allows employees to really broaden their knowledge base and keeps the job interesting.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I have a young son, so I mostly just mom. When I have time, I love photography and have been a wedding photographer since 2008.
