Meet Jennifer "Jenna" Dickerson

What is your official job title at EHS and a general description of your job duties?

At EHS, I manage the Laboratory Safety Program. It focuses on having safety representatives who assess occupational and research hazards and assist researchers in any project-specific safety-related evaluations they may need.

When did you begin working for Ohio State?

I started working at Ohio State in 2010 as a Large Animal Surgical Technician for ULAR. I then went into a research lab under the Department of Surgery before transferring to EHS.

How long have you been with EHS?

I took a position as a Laboratory Safety Officer in 2015.

Why did you decide on a career in health and safety?

I enjoy helping people perform their research safely. Risk assessments of the broad scope of projects being conducted here at the university are of great interest to me. Primarily I like being able to sit down with the laboratory personnel and help them work through all the compliance requirements.

What is your favorite thing about Ohio State?

I love the ever-changing environment. It allows employees to really broaden their knowledge base and keeps the job interesting.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I have a young son, so I mostly just mom.  When I have time, I love photography and have been a wedding photographer since 2008.

What is your favorite quote, TV show, movie, or book?

"Some of the best people with whom you can have a relationship are the people who challenge your thinking."  by T. D. Jakes
