Laboratory Safety Orientation Class

EHS is pleased to offer a new, ½ day Lab Safety Orientation class beginning this September. The course is designed to give a high level overview of lab safety and compliance at The Ohio State University and is intended for individuals who are new to the lab environment. This is not intended to be a comprehensive training course and does not fulfill the training requirements for conducting work in a research laboratory. Additional online training modules are required. The course will be taught by various EHS staff with topics to include:

  • Building Emergency Action Planning
  • Introduction to Chemical Safety and Security
  • Introduction to Biological Safety
  • Introduction to the OSHA Laboratory Standard and Personal Protective Equipment
  • Engineering Controls
  • Laboratory Inspections
  • Risk Assessment Process

Two sessions are currently open and available for registration through BuckeyeLearn. To register,  login to buckeyelearn.osu.edu and search for “lab safety” in the search field in the top-right corner of the homepage. Select “Lab Safety Orientation”. Select the Request button to the right of the Session Details (not the Request button at the top of the page). Please only register for one of the available sessions. You will receive a confirmation email once you have registered for the session. After registering, you can always view the training details by accessing your BuckeyeLearn Transcript.
