Safety Brief - Can You Hear Me Now?

EHS performs noise assessments to determine sound exposures in loud environments.

Employee exposures to noise of sufficient intensity and duration can result in hearing damage.

Workers may be exposed to 90 decibels (dBA) for an 8-hour work day.

To effectively control noise, the sound level must be accurately measured according to standard operating procedures and equipment specifications.

Monitoring employee noise exposure is composed of area and personal monitoring.

  • Area monitoring consists of using a sound level meter to identify work areas where employee exposure may be above exposure limits, and where thorough exposure monitoring may be needed.
  • Personal monitoring uses a noise dosimeter. This device is placed on an employee and monitors their noise exposure throughout their entire work shift.
