Source Collection and Threat Reduction (SCATR)

Radiation Safety will be participating in a Department of Energy (DOE) funded program called SCATR (Source Collection and Threat Reduction) and are reaching out to groups who maintain radioactive Sealed Source permits. The goal of the SCATR program is to collect and dispose of unwanted sealed sources. Participation in the program is voluntary and cost (if any) will be determined based on participation. Eligible sources include but are not limited to Electron Capture Detectors (Ni-63), Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC) sources (Cs-137/Ba-133), calibration and exempted low activity check sources (C-14, Cs-137). Sources embedded in analytical equipment such as a Gas Chromatograph or LSC will be removed by EHS staff free of charge. Not all sources may qualify for the program depending on the parameters outlined in the SCATR program. If you wish to participate, please complete the source form before March 31st 2023 so that we can estimate the number of sources for disposal. If you do not wish to participate or plan to keep your sources no further action is necessary. Thank you.
