Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

How to Store Chemical Waste

Environmental Health and Safety strongly encourages the containment of all chemical waste within laboratory facilities. For instances where lab personnel are infrequently present, a chemical waste pickup request must be submitted before it is permissible to temporarily store the chemicals in the hallway.

These containers must be securely closed and appropriately labeled to indicate the contents with the waste request number affixed on the outside of the container. Containers with a capacity of less than 5 gallons, as well as any glass containers, must be placed within suitable secondary containment, such as a plastic tote.

Please note: Cardboard boxes are not considered appropriate secondary containment for chemical waste.
