Each quarter, members of the university compliance community nominate colleagues and partners who best exemplify the university’s Shared Values. This month, Environmental Health and Safety’s (EHS) Mitch Baker was selected to receive the Shared Values of Integrity and Respect Award.
“Our nominees this quarter are a list of exemplary colleagues who demonstrate our Shared Values of integrity and respect, by acting responsibly and being accountable,” said Gates Garrity-Rokous, vice president and chief compliance officer for the Office of University Compliance and Integrity.
Baker works as part of the EHS Laboratory Safety Program as a laboratory compliance officer. In his role, he helps to ensure that individuals doing research in campus laboratories are doing so safely and in compliance with federal, state and local regulations by conducting laboratory safety inspections and serving as the university’s Chemical Hygiene Officer.
According to his nomination letter, Baker approaches his responsibilities with the utmost dedication and seriousness, setting a high standard for accountability that serves as a shining example for all staff members. His dedication to his role is unwavering, and he consistently goes above and beyond in ensuring compliance and ethical standards are met.
“We are proud of Mitch and his deserving recognition,” said EHS director Tina Bogac. “He is well-known for showing a genuine concern for the Ohio State research community and prioritizes the safety of all through his work.”
EHS assists the university community in providing and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment for students, faculty, staff, contractors and visitors. EHS also works to protect the local community and environment from potential hazards on campus and instills safety, health and environmental stewardship in the work they perform.
Baker was recognized through a nomination letter that stated he possesses an ability to bring people together, creating a lighthearted and welcoming atmosphere that encourages collaboration and camaraderie. He was recognized for his dedication to ethical standards, authenticity and ability to create a welcoming workplace culture.
