5-gallon carboys are used for the collection of small amounts of liquid waste, such as acid waste, solvent waste, or waste drained from machines/equipment. It is important to make sure you are not mixing incompatible wastes, e.g. acids and bases.
5-gallon buckets are used for the collection of small amounts of solid waste. Most commonly this is chemically contaminated debris but can include gels or glassware. It is important keep the wastes separate (Gel bucket, debris bucket, etc.)
30-gallon open top drums are used for the collection of large quantities of solid waste. Due to the size, EHS prefers these are only used for debris to avoid weight issues. Do not use the drums to collect smaller bottles of chemicals for disposal.
30-gallon closed top drums are used for the collection of large quantities of liquid waste. These should be used when producing waste at a pace too quick that cannot be handled by carboys.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) offers a wide range of containers for your hazardous waste. Need help deciding which is right for your waste needs? View the quick guide to help you decide.
