JanuaryAsbestos AwarenessThe employer shall provide, at no cost to employees, an asbestos awareness training course that shall at a minimum contain the following elements: health effects of asbestos, locations of asbestos-containing and potential asbestos-containing material (ACM and PACM) within the facility, recognition of ACM and PACM damage and deterioration, requirements in this standard relating to housekeeping, and proper response to fiber release episodes. Each employee shall be so trained at least once a year. (29 CFR 1910.1001)

FebruaryAccess to Employee Exposure and Medical RecordsThis topic is one of the most overlooked requirements and one of the top items that appears in safety compliance audits. Annual notification for employee access to medical records is required. Employers are required to inform workers of their rights to access their medical records, where they are kept, how to obtain them and who is responsible for keeping them. (29 CFR 1910.1020)

MayElectrical Equipment Safety No regulatory requirement, Equipment like vacuum cleaners and floor machines must be used, when few people are around. The wiring and electrical fittings of these equipment must be checked everyday before use, to avoid electric shocks and other hazards due to electricity.

OctoberFire Extinguishers; Emergency Plan (BEAP) Where the employer has provided portable fire extinguishers for employee use in the workplace, the employer shall also provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage firefighting.  The employer shall provide employees who have firefighting equipment as part of an emergency action plan with training in the use of the appropriate equipment. Upon initial assignment and at least annually thereafter.
