Introduction to Laboratory Safety & EHS Course

Environmental Health and Safety will be offering the Introduction to Laboratory Safety & EHS course on February 13, 2018.  This 1/2-day course (12:30 – 4:30 p.m.)  is intended to give a high level overview of lab safety and Environmental Health and Safety at The Ohio State University. Training is intended for individuals who are new to the laboratory environment and is open to all university faculty, staff, students and sponsored guests. This course does not meet the specific regulatory requirements for working in a laboratory. Additional online modules are required. 

This training also will be available as a webinar via Skype for those individuals who are located at branch campuses.  Please register for the session and an email will be sent prior to the sessions with the link for joining the webinar.  

The course will be taught by various EHS staff with topics to include:

  • Building emergencies
  • General chemical safety overview
  • Introduction to Biosafety
  • What are engineering controls?
  • How do I dispose of my hazardous waste at Ohio State?
  • What to expect during an EHS laboratory site visit
  • The importance of risk assessments!

The session currently is open and available for registration through BuckeyeLearn. To register, login to BuckeyeLearn and search for “lab safety” in the search field in the top-right corner of the homepage. Select “Introduction to Laboratory Safety & EHS.” Select the Request button to the right of the Session Details (not the Request button at the top of the page). You will receive a confirmation email once you have registered for the session. After registering, you can always view the training details by accessing your BuckeyeLearn Transcript.
